A&D Medical LifeSource Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Manual Cuff Inflation

PRODUCT DETAILS

The A&D Medical LifeSource upper arm digital blood pressure monitor (BPM) is a clinically validated, oscillometric monitor whose cuff you inflate by hand with a latex-free bulb. It reads systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate on a single display, flags an irregular heartbeat during the measurement, and stores the last 30 readings with their average. A Pressure Rating Indicator bar places each reading against the JNC7 blood pressure classification.

How to Use the Monitor

Wrap the cuff around your upper arm and squeeze the rubber bulb to fill it with air, stopping when the display reaches roughly 30 to 40 mmHg above the systolic value you expect. The monitor then releases the air on its own at a steady rate, and the exhaust button empties the cuff when you are done.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Manual cuff inflation with a latex-free bulb for a comfortable measurement
  • Clinically validated for accuracy; pressure accuracy ±3 mmHg or 2%, pulse ±5%
  • Irregular Heartbeat (IHB) indication during a measurement
  • 30-reading memory that displays the average of all measurements
  • Pressure Rating Indicator bar that classifies each reading against the JNC7 (May 2003) blood pressure classification
  • Oscillometric measurement: pressure 0–299 mmHg, pulse 40–180 beats/min
  • Battery powered: 1 AA (1.5 V) battery included, about 2,000 measurements, with a battery life indicator
  • Free A&D Heart Track app for iOS and Android: you enter each reading into the app by hand, and it keeps an electronic record of them
  • Cuffs not made with natural rubber latex
  • Extended 5-year monitor warranty and 2-year cuff warranty

Reading Your Results

Two numbers appear on the display. The first and higher number is the systolic pressure, the pressure inside your arteries while your heart beats. The second and lower number is the diastolic pressure, the pressure inside your arteries while your heart rests between beats. The Pressure Rating Indicator adds a bar that places your reading in the JNC7 blood pressure classification, the Joint National Committee scale of May 2003. On that scale, an adult reading below 120 and below 80 is normal, 120–139 or 80–89 is prehypertension, 140–159 or 90–99 is Stage 1 hypertension, and 160 or higher or 100 or higher is Stage 2 hypertension.

Newer U.S. guidelines, including the American Heart Association’s, set lower cutoffs than that 2003 scale, so a reading the bar calls prehypertension or Stage 1 may fall in a higher category under them. The bar is an approximate guide rather than a diagnosis: ask your doctor what a reading means for you.

When Not to Use It

  • For readings at home by people 18 and older; it is not made to be worn or carried while you go about your day.
  • Use the left arm for measurements unless your physician recommends otherwise.
  • Allow at least 5 minutes between measurements on the same person.
  • Do not place the cuff on an arm with an unhealed wound.
  • Do not place the cuff on an arm receiving an intravenous drip or a blood transfusion; it may cause injury or accidents.
  • Do not place the cuff on an arm with another medical electrical device attached, since that device may not function properly.
  • People who have a severe circulatory deficit in the arm must consult a doctor before using the monitor, to avoid medical problems.
  • Only a medical practitioner is qualified to interpret the readings, and the monitor should not replace regular medical examinations.
  • Consult your physician if you have any doubt about a reading, and do not self-diagnose the results or start treatment on your own.
  • Do not use the monitor in highly concentrated oxygen environments, such as a high-pressure oxygen chamber or an oxygen tent, where it may cause a fire or explosion.
  • The LifeSource small cuff is not compatible with the UA-705 monitor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a blood pressure monitor?

A blood pressure monitor is a device that measures the force of blood against artery walls, providing systolic and diastolic readings to assess heart health.

Are blood pressure monitors accurate?

Yes, most blood pressure monitors are highly accurate when used correctly. For the most reliable results, choose a clinically validated device and follow proper measurement techniques.

How often should I check my blood pressure?

If you have high blood pressure or heart conditions, it is recommended to check your blood pressure daily or as advised by your healthcare provider. For general health tracking, weekly or monthly monitoring may be sufficient.

Can stress affect blood pressure readings?

Yes, stress can cause temporary spikes in blood pressure. It is advisable to measure your blood pressure in a calm and relaxed state for more accurate readings.

What is the best position for taking blood pressure?

The best position for accurate blood pressure readings is sitting with your back supported, feet flat on the ground, and your arm resting at heart level. Avoid talking or moving during the measurement.

How to use a blood pressure monitor?

Follow these steps to measure blood pressure accurately:

  1. Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking a reading.
  2. Place the cuff snugly around your upper arm or wrist, depending on the device type.
  3. Ensure you are seated comfortably with your arm supported at heart level.
  4. Press the start button and remain still while the monitor inflates and deflates.
  5. Record the reading and compare it with recommended blood pressure ranges.
