The 3M Attest Steam Biological Indicator, 1262, is a self-contained biological indicator that monitors 250°F (121°C) gravity displacement and 270°F (132°C) vacuum-assisted saturated steam sterilization cycles, with a final result read at 48 hours. It is a Geobacillus stearothermophilus spore strip and a sealed glass ampoule of growth medium in a plastic vial topped with a brown color-coded cap, and the chemical process indicator on the label changes from rose to brown/black when the vial is processed. Sold as a carton of 100 indicators.

Reading the Result

After the sterilization cycle, activate the indicator to join the growth medium with the processed spore strip, then incubate it. At 48 hours a color change from purple to yellow indicates surviving spores and a positive result.
