Abbott FreeStyle Blood Glucose Control Solution, 4 mL

The Abbott FreeStyle Blood Glucose Control Solution is a red liquid with a fixed amount of glucose, for the FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Freedom Lite blood glucose meters. A control solution test runs the meter's full reading cycle without a drop of blood — to practice a test, to confirm the meter and a test strip vial work together, or to double-check a result you are unsure of. Control solution comes in three levels, Low, Normal and High, and this product is offered in the Normal level and in the High and Low levels. Read the meter's reading against the control solution range printed on the test strip vial — that range is for control solution only, not for blood.

How to Run a Control Solution Test

1. Check the control solution expiration date. Do not use control solution past its expiration date; discard it 3 months after opening or on the expiration date printed on the bottle, whichever comes first — write the discard date on the side of the bottle.
2. Remove a test strip from its vial.
3. Insert the strip, printed side up, top end in; the meter turns on.
4. Confirm the system check screen appears. If the display does not exactly match the example, do not use the meter and contact Customer Care.
5. Apply and hold the control solution to one sample area of the strip until you see short lines moving clockwise on the display or hear a beep. If a line does not appear after 5 seconds, the sample may be too small — do not add control solution to both sides of the strip.
6. View the result when the test is complete.
7. Press and hold the c (configure) button for 2 seconds to mark the result as a control solution test.

Reading the Result

• The result should fall within the range printed on the test strip vial.
• Do not use that range when testing blood glucose.
• Repeat the test if control solution results are outside the range printed on the test strip vial.
• Stop using the meter if control solution results are consistently outside the range printed on the test strip vial. Contact Customer Care.
• Control solution results are accurate only between 59°F and 104°F (15°C to 40°C).

Storage and Handling

• Use only FreeStyle control solution with the meter.
• Replace the cap securely on the bottle immediately after use.
• Do not add water or other liquid to control solution.
