These specialized Control Solutions are used to practice testing without having to use your own blood and ensure that the meter and test strips are working together properly. Since low or high blood glucose readings can indicate a potentially serious medical condition, control solutions allow to test the accuracy of meters and test strips. Once applied to a test strip, the control solution confirms that the meter's test results are in the expected range printed on the test strip vial.

How Often Should A Control Solution Test Be Performed?

The Control Solution tests should be performed at least once a week and every time a new vial of test strips is opened. This test should also be performed whenever you suspect the meter or test strips may not be functioning properly.
