Cardinal Health Kendall Silicone Non-Bordered Foam Dressing, 3.5 in to 8 in, Heel and Tracheostomy

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Kendall silicone non-bordered foam dressing line from Cardinal Health is a sterile, single-use primary dressing for moderately exuding, partial- to full-thickness wounds, including pressure ulcers, post-operative surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, graft and donor sites, and diabetic, venous and arterial ulcers. Each dressing pairs a highly absorbent foam pad with a protective film backing and a gentle silicone adhesive, and the non-bordered pad can be cut to size at the point of application. The line spans square, heel and tracheostomy cuts, and a dressing may remain in place for up to 7 days.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Highly absorbent foam pad absorbs exudate and helps facilitate a moist wound environment.
  • Gentle silicone adhesive over a protective film backing.
  • Non-bordered pad can be cut to size at application, with a 3/4 in (1.9 cm) overlap onto the dry skin surrounding the wound for dressings under 5 in x 5 in (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm) and a 2 in (5.1 cm) overlap for larger dressings.
  • Sterile, single-use, and not made with natural rubber latex.
  • The heel cut is for wounds on the heel.
  • The tracheostomy cut suits the peristomal area around tracheostomy tubes and other drains and tubes.
  • May be covered with a moisture-retentive secondary dressing to protect and promote a moist wound healing environment.
  • May remain in place for up to 7 days; remove when clinically indicated, such as leakage or increased pain.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is foam dressing used for?

A: Foam dressings are used for moderate to heavily exuding wounds such as pressure ulcers, post-surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, and traumatic wounds. They absorb fluid, protect the wound, and support healing.

Q: How often should foam dressings be changed?

A: Foam dressings are typically changed every 3 to 7 days or as needed depending on the amount of exudate. Always follow the wound care professional’s recommendations.

Q: How do foam dressings work?

A: Foam dressings absorb exudate while keeping the wound moist. They help prevent infection, reduce pain, and protect the wound from external contaminants.

Q: Can foam dressings be used on infected wounds?

A: Some foam dressings are formulated with antimicrobial agents suitable for infected wounds. Always consult with a healthcare provider before applying to an infected site.

Q: Are foam dressings suitable for dry wounds?

A: Foam dressings are typically not recommended for dry wounds because they are designed to absorb moisture. Hydrogel dressings may be more appropriate for dry or necrotic wounds.

Q: Do foam dressings stick to wounds?

A: Non-adherent foam dressings do not stick to wounds and are gentle during removal. Adhesive foam dressings stick around the wound, not directly on it.
