3M Tegaderm High Performance Foam Adhesive Dressing

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Tegaderm High Performance foam adhesive dressing is a multi-layer, bordered foam dressing for partial and full thickness dermal wounds with exudate levels from low to high. A superabsorbent layer absorbs and retains exudate away from the wound, while the highly breathable, semi-permeable adhesive film backing prevents strikethrough and maintains a moist wound environment. The soft absorbent foam is conformable, and the thin, low-profile adhesive border holds the dressing securely in place to minimize edge roll and lift. Its spoke delivery system allows one-handed application to difficult body contours, including heels and elbows, without cutting the dressing to size. It is used as a primary dressing on its own or as a secondary cover over wound fillers such as gauze or alginate, with or under compression therapy.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Multi-layer design that adapts to changing levels of exudate to help maintain a moist wound environment
  • Superabsorbent layer that absorbs and retains moisture away from the wound, minimizing backward moisture migration
  • Highly breathable, semi-permeable adhesive film backing that prevents exudate strikethrough
  • Soft absorbent foam that wicks moisture into the secondary layers with minimal swell
  • Spoke delivery system for one-handed application to difficult body contours, including heels and elbows, without cutting
  • Thin, low-profile film and adhesive border that holds the dressing securely in place to minimize edge roll and lift
  • Waterproof film that may be worn during showering
  • Suitable as a primary dressing for low to highly exuding partial and full thickness dermal wounds, or as a secondary cover over wound fillers and under compression wrap systems

Selecting a Shape and Size

The Heel/Elbow shape is cut to conform to difficult body contours such as the heel and elbow; the square, oval, and mini wrap shapes suit flat and gently curved wound areas. It is used on pressure, arterial, neuropathic (diabetic), and venous leg ulcers, as well as skin tears and abrasions. Match the dressing size to the wound area to be covered, with the pad sized to the wound bed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is foam dressing used for?

Foam dressings are used for moderate to heavily exuding wounds such as pressure ulcers, post-surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, and traumatic wounds. They absorb fluid, protect the wound, and support healing.

How often should foam dressings be changed?

Foam dressings are typically changed every 3 to 7 days or as needed depending on the amount of exudate. Always follow the wound care professional’s recommendations.

How do foam dressings work?

Foam dressings absorb exudate while keeping the wound moist. They help prevent infection, reduce pain, and protect the wound from external contaminants.

Can foam dressings be used on infected wounds?

Some foam dressings are formulated with antimicrobial agents suitable for infected wounds. Always consult with a healthcare provider before applying to an infected site.

Are foam dressings suitable for dry wounds?

Foam dressings are typically not recommended for dry wounds because they are designed to absorb moisture. Hydrogel dressings may be more appropriate for dry or necrotic wounds.

Do foam dressings stick to wounds?

Non-adherent foam dressings do not stick to wounds and are gentle during removal. Adhesive foam dressings stick around the wound, not directly on it.
