Abbott FreeStyle Precision Neo Blood Glucose Test Strips / Meter / Monitoring Kits
PRODUCT DETAILS
The Abbott FreeStyle Precision Neo is a home blood glucose monitoring system from Abbott Diabetes Care. The meter and its matching single-use test strips measure the glucose in a small drop of whole blood drawn from the fingertip and show the result in mg/dL. It is available over the counter for self-testing by people managing diabetes, and it comes as the meter alone, as boxes of test strips, or as a kit of the meter plus strips.
mg/dL is the amount of glucose (sugar) in a deciliter of blood. Food, medicine, and activity move that number through the day, and readings that run too high or too low can cause problems, so regular testing shows what is affecting your number and helps spot patterns. A doctor sets the target range and the checking schedule; for most non-pregnant adults with diabetes, common targets are 80-130 mg/dL before meals and below 180 mg/dL 1-2 hours after meals. Results are discussed with a doctor, and the monitoring equipment should not be shared, even with family.
Key Features and Benefits
- Measures glucose in the 20-500 mg/dL operating range and displays results in mg/dL
- Delivers a result in 5 seconds from a 0.6 microliter blood sample
- No coding required for the test strips
- Trend arrows: a solid red arrow when a reading falls below the low target, a solid yellow arrow when it goes above the high target, and a blinking arrow when a pattern of lows or highs has developed over the past five days; the default targets are 70 and 240 mg/dL and can be changed or turned off
- The test strips also work in the FreeStyle Libre Reader's built-in meter
- Stores 1,000 results in memory and transfers them to a computer over USB
- Runs on two CR 2032 lithium coin-cell batteries
- Results are validated for samples with a hematocrit (the share of red cells in the blood) of 15-65%
- Works at altitudes up to 10,000 feet (3,048 m)
- Operating range: 50-122 F (10-50 C) for the meter, 59-104 F (15-40 C) for the strips

When Not to Use It
The FreeStyle Precision Neo is for one person only. It must not be used on more than one person, including other family members, due to the risk of spreading infection, and the meter and its accessories must not be shared, even with family members.
It is not for testing blood from newborns (neonates), and it is not for diagnosing or screening for diabetes; it is for monitoring blood glucose in people who already manage diabetes. It is not for testing critically ill patients, or patients who are dehydrated, hypotensive, or in shock.
Do not use expired test strips; they may cause inaccurate results. Do not perform a blood glucose test while the meter is connected to the computer, because of the risk of electric shock. Keep the batteries away from small children, and if one is swallowed, contact a healthcare professional immediately. Contact a healthcare professional if you have symptoms that do not match your test result.
